What should I expect from my subscription?

The Adret is a newsletter delivered straight to your inbox dedicated to curating articles, essays, and stories about national and international issues. The first project under this banner is “The Best of Each Month”, which includes 10-15 items summarized in one sentence with a link to the source. Each piece will generally fit into three criteria:

  1. An underreported story, either from a place or issue area that receives little media attention in the United States.

  2. A piece that challenges assumptions about the world we live in or how we tackle society’s challenges.

  3. A work that inspires realistic, equitable, and context-driven change.

All three allude to the symbol of an adret: the world faces daunting challenges (the mountain) that are more easily overcome with good information (sunlight).

The Adret is a platform for curation because there is no shortage of good, incisive, and inspiring writing out there waiting to be read.

Caveats

While most of the pieces here share some of the author’s views, sharing them on the substack does not imply agreement with the perspectives nor an endorsement of the broader views of any of the authors.

The Adret will often include articles behind paywalls. Excellent authors deserve to be compensated, so it is encouraged to support the publications that employ them, if your finances allow.
